Notes for Conrad CUNTERMANN (COUNTRYMAN) Jr. (II)
1777:
It is probable that as of 6 Aug 1777, Conrad served in the 1st Battalion, Colonel Clyde’s Regiment, of the Tryon County, New York Militia and fought in the Battle of Oriskany.426 Although there are several (at least four427 ) Conrad Countrymans listed in the various muster roll lists, it is probable that Conrad II is one of them. Several of Conrad’s brothers served in this unit. None of them have pensions as they were older when they served and died before pensions were available. All able bodied adult men aged 16 to 60 were required to muster in the militia.

The 1st Battalion was one of the first units engaged at the Battle of Oriskany and suffered heavy losses. The three brothers apparently survived.428

“During that war [War of the Revolution], three of the sons, Conrad (II), Johannes and George, served in the Tryon County Militia. Another son, Frederick (II) is thought possibly to have served in the same regiments. Jacob (II), another son, served as a Loyalist, or Tory, in Sir John Johnson’s 1st Battalion of the King’s Royal Yorkers and fought against his brothers.”419

1790:
Conrad was alive on 5 Apr 1790, on the day his daughter Catharina was married to Heinrich Gardner.429

1791:
Conrad was deceased by 26 Jan 1791, on the day his daughter Anna was married to Jean Dekier.430
