“For a few years, two enterprising young men, Cyrus H. Brownell and Cyrus B. Gilbert owned the mill in Lot 1 of the Benson Tract. But Brownell had aspirations toward becoming a lawyer, and around 1830 the property was sold to Nickolas B. Rhodes of Brooklyn.”673

1832:
Cyrus was Town Clerk, Town of Hope, NY in 1832.

1840’s:
Cyrus was District Attorney, Hamilton County, NY between 1844 to 1847.631

1850’:
"The town [of Hope] also boasted the only lawyer in the county in Cyrus H. Brownell, 45, residing in the Benson district" in 1850.631
Cyrus was an Assemblyman in the New York State Legislature in 1850.631
