Notes for Samuel HAMMOND
1680:
Samuel “came with his brother John to Rochester, Mass., about 1680, and settled in the extreme southwesterly part of town, known as the “West Neck,” where he died at a ripe age much respected.”591,741

“He was an extensive land-holder, and settled four of his sons around him, viz: Seth, Josiah, Barnabas and Jedediah.”591

He bought his land from Hugh Cole of Swansey who bought it from King Philip, Sachem of Pokanoket, in 1671.591

1728:
“The will of Samuel Hammond of Rochester, yeoman, dated 12 July 1728, proved 1 December 1728, names his wife Mary; sons Thomas, Jedediah, Josiah, John, Samuel, Barnabas, Seth; his daughters mariah Clearke and Jedidah; grandsons Arcules hammond and peter Spooner; granddaughters Abaigel Hammond, Elesebeth Spooner and Rose Sponner; ‘my six granchildren’ Jeduthan Spooner, benjamin Spooner, John Spooner, Thomas Spooner, ‘feby’Spooner and mary.”703
