Notes for Cyrus Brownell GILBERT
“For a few years, two enterprising young men, Cyrus H. Brownell and Cyrus B. Gilbert owned the mill in Lot 1 of the Benson Tract. But Brownell had aspirations toward becoming a lawyer, and around 1830 the property was sold to Nickolas B. Rhodes of Brooklyn.”673

Cyrus “Left home while a young man and went to Duchess County; he went to work for the Hammonds. When he had saved enough money to start for himself, he bought about 300 acres of land on the highland of North Fast, and went into the milk business. Sending his milk to New York, 96 miles away, his business increased from about 100 quarts per week to 150 per week.”
