1880:
As of 19 and 21 June 1880, the United States Census states that the following were living in Broadalbin, New York:778
Clarressa Gravett, age 29; her sister, Clarra Gravett, age 18: her adopted daughter, Lithene Gravett, age 8 months (born October 1879); Edward Read, age 23 and Foney(?) Cole, age 20, both hired farm laborers. Although the ages do not match, it is almost certain that this is Clarissa/Clara Gravatt and her sister, Carrie. Clarissa E. Gravatt’s birth date in the 1870 census corresponds to the birth date given in Clara E. Gravatt’s obituary, however a four to five year discrepancy follows Clara across every census to her death. Perhaps she wanted folks to think she was younger than she really was! Clarissa/Clara was actually 34 and Carrie was really only 15 in 1880.
While the Office of the Town Clerk, Town of Broadalbin, New York lists Louis’s birth date as 25 Oct 1879 and, along with New York State Department of Health Birth Records, lists Louie’s death date as 2 Jan 1888 at age 8 years, 2 months, 8 days,55 the headstone at the Hagaman Cemetery lists Louie’s birth date as 1881 and Louie’s death date as 1889 at age 8 years, 2 months, 8 days.43 It is probable that Louie Reed is Lithene Gravatt listed in the 1880 census and was apparently adopted. Is Louie Carrie’s natural child that her older sister adopted? Louie is buried in the J. Edward Reed lot and carries the Reed name at death. Or is Louie adopted from unknown parents outside the family? Louie’s New York State Death Certificate states her parents as Carrie and Edward Reed.846

On 2 Jan 1880, Louie dies at age 8 years, 2 months, 8 days from [?]diptheria.846
