1588:
Claude “was a Protestent and was prosecuted by the Catholic league and put in prison with others in Ameniens in 1588.”1096

In his family history titled “Descendants of Glaude Le Maistre or Delamater” (1962), Charles Wesley Delamarter quotes from James Riker’s “History of Harlem” (1904): “Claude Le Maistre, Sieur De Hedicourt, becoming a protestant, was, with others, imprisoned and fined at Amiens in 1588, at the instance of the League. He was a man of talent and spirit, and showed great valor in opposing the entrance of the Spaniards into that city in 1597, when soldiers in the garb of peasants, selling apples and nuts, had gained admission.”1065
