662"The Brownell brothers continued in the tanning business until late in the 1890's, when tanning became an uneconomical undertaking in the Adirondacks. Lumber was planed there until 1906, using a water wheel to run the plane. Then the plant was closed for good and most of the machinery removed. In 1919 and 1921, much of the tannery land was conveyed by the heirs of the Brownell Brothers to Isaac Brownell."
