"Thomas Brownell was one of the early settlers of Little Compton, which was originally called by the Indian name, Sakonet, meaning the 'Haunt of the Wild Goose.' The township was a part of Massachusetts until 1747 when the boundary line between the two states was changed and Little Compton became a part of Rhode Island."
