The Nelson Reed family lived in West Seneca, Erie Cnty, New York930 and was well-to-do.860 Nelson was a benefactor to several community organizations.928 He owned a mansion and farm near the intersection of Hamburg Turnpike and Ridge Road.928

Nelson Reed was Supervisor of the Town of West Seneca, New York during 1862 and 1871-1873.926

1890:
In about 1890, Buffalo took over 60 acres of his farm for the South Park in Buffalo, NY, now the location of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens.928

1892:
Reported on 15 June 1892, “The Nelson Reed natural gas well on the Ridge is down over nine hundred feet without any indication of gas.”931

Nelson Reed passed away on 24 June 1892. His funeral was held at the family residence at White’s Corners and Ridge Road in West Seneca, Buffalo, New York on Sunday, 26 June 1892. He was age 73 years, 9 months, 2 days.927,855 At the time of his death, Nelson Reed’s occupation was listed as a gardener.855
