The earliest mention of Obadiah Gilbert is 1 Jan 1657 “when with his brother Josiah he signed the agreement to obey the magistrates and laws of New Netherland, at the new plantation at East town, now in Westchester County, NY”1171

“After his father’s death in September, 1659, he was on the farm at Nayaug.”1171
1660:
He may have settled as early as 1660 in Fairfield.1171
“He was...a considerable land owner.”1171
1670:
“Fairfield records under date Aug. 11, 1670, say that ‘Obadiah Gilbert hath had quiet possession of a home lot of two and one-half acres for the past eight years.’ This may have been Olmstead’s home lot”1171
