Notes for Frederick (Freddy) W. RANKIE
1913:
As of 13 Apr 2013, the day his mother died, Fred was living at home in Cranesville, Montgomery Cnty, New York.96

1918:

Frederick died in a motorcycle accident7 “in a collision near the Hoffmans water station.” Hoffmans is between Schenectady, New York and Cranesville or Amsterdam, New York. The accident occured on Sunday, 14 Jul 1918. He survived in the hospital for about six weeks and one day and died on 26 August 1918.48,115

“Fred Rankie, of Cranesville, a member of the firm of Rankie Bros., ice dealers, was seriously injured Sunday afternoon about 4:15 o’clock when the motorcycle he was piloting crashed into an automobile. Rankie, who will probably die, has fractures of the pelvis, the right leg below the knee, the right wrist and the urethra. He was hurried to the City hospital after the accident and there attended by Drs. Canna, Collier and LaPorte.
Mr. Rankie was proceeding eastward along the turnpike in the vicinity of the New York Central water station just west of Hoffmans, carring as a passenger on the rear seat Howard Fancher, also of Cranesville. Rankie was behind two automobiles going in the same direction and turned to the left to pass them. A westward bound automobile, driven by Jerome Wyle, of 41 Beaver Street, Albany, was approaching the other cars when Mr. Wyle saw the motorcycle speeding toward him. He pulled his machine to the ditch, but Rankie was going so fast that instead of taking the space between the cars he shot to the right hand side of the Wyle machine, striking the front wheel and hurtling into space. Fancher was thrown over the Wyle car, but excaped with a few bruises and sprains.
Mr. Rankie, who is 31 years old, is deaf. He has been a lifelong resident of Cranesville.”
