93 His father Louis Ranke (38), his stepmother Mary Ranke (23) and his sister Minne Ranke (10), all born in Germany resided nearby, also in the West Galway Post Office district, Perth, NY. Louis was listed in the census as a laborer.
101 1870’s-1880’s:
As of 9 Aug 1870, Frances Delamater was a servant on the Joseph Neff farm in the Amsterdam Post Office.
102 John F. and Frances M. were tenants on a farm south of the Mohawk River and Amsterdam, NY near the current (1996) S.P.C.A. John earned a herd of cattle which he drove across the river to a farm along current Rt. 67 NE of Amsterdam (just south of Cappie's Drive In). The Rankie homestead described above in Cranesville came later,
100 probably circa 1893 as that is when several of the Rankie children were admitted into the Reformed Church of Cranesville.
66 1900:
John F., who was 52 years old, a farmer, and a naturalized citizen of the US; and his wife, Frances, who was 55 years old, owned their mortgaged farm and have been married for 30 years. Their children were as follows: Wallace, also a farmer, was 28years old; Eugene, a laborer in an ice house was 25 years old; James, a laborer in an ice house was 23 years old; Ira, a laborer in an ice house was 21 years old; Bertha, a machine runner in knit goods for two months out of the year was 19 years old; Eunice, who cuts ends in knit goods two months out of the year was 17 years old; and Freddy, still a student was at school and was 14 years old.
49The Rankie homestead is now (1995) the property of Ed and Diane Posluszny, Craneville Hollow Rd. It was the residence of daughter, Eunice Rankie, after her parents deaths and until her death. Eunice willed the property to Eunice Reed Przybylo, who sold it to her daughter Diane Przybylo Posluszny, the great-grandaughter of John Fred Rankie.
7,21910:
The Rankies purchased the farm on what is now called McQuade Rd, above Cranes Hollow in the Town of Amsterdam, New York that would, upon settling John Fred’s estate, be owned by Harry and Bertha Rankie Reed. Harry and Bertha moved to the farm in 1916, initially renting from the Rankies.

Fred Rankie survived his wife, Frances, who died on 13 Apr 1913 at age 68 after an illness of six months.
1915:
On 7 July 1915,John F. Rankie, Town of Amsterdam, was awarded $4.50 for a barn damaged on May 25 1915.
1031918:
On 2 Feb 1918, John F. Rankie "died at his home at Cranesville Saturday at 7 o'clock, aged 70 years…[he] was injured while delivering milk in the city of Amsterdam about a year ago last fall, when his delivery wagon was struck by an F.J.&G. car, and he had never fully recovered from the accident. For the past two months he had been confined to his bed"
3Cause of death: cystitis (? difficult to read) Contributory: "Accident. Fracture of ribs and arm(s?) Trolley car threw deceased out of wagon. Ltr. Reg. filed Apr. 22, 1918" Died: 7:00 a.m.
91 His "funeral [was] held at his home at Cranesville, Tuesday at 2 o'clock [with the] Rev. Alvah E. Knapp officiating."
3He was buried in the Rankie lot, Hagaman Cemetery, Hagaman, NY. Directions: From the highway, turn right on John St. Go all the way back to a “T” intersection. Turn left. Two Rankie lots are on the left.
In March 1918, Letters of Administration were issued to Fred W. and Eugene Rankie, his sons.
104Undated:
Because they lived nearby and because the Rankie homestead had modern plumbing when most of the other farm houses didn't, the family would often board local school teachers.
