In early September 1851, John Sprung, who was living with his family in the Town of Caroga, New York, was arrested and charged with the murder of his son, John Sprung, Jr. John came home drunk from Newkirk Mills, berated and then assaulted his son and his wife. The assault resulted in his son’s death. His son was recovering from a fracture at the time.
