1860:
According to the 1860 Census, Louis Ranke, age 38, lived in the West Galway Post Office district, Perth, NY. According to the census he was born in Germany and his occupation at that time was as a laborer. His household included Mary Ranke, age 23, who was born in Germany and Minnie Ranke, age 10, who was also born in Germany.101 Frederick Ranke, age 12, (Lewis’ son) resided with the Isaac Hartley family, West Galway Post Office, Perth, NY.93
1870:
The 1870 census186 lists Louis Rainka, 49, as residing in the West Galway Post Office district, Perth, NY. He was born Prussia and his occupation is now listed as a doctor. Also listed in his household are:
Rekie Rainka, 32, (born in Prussia and keeps house)
William,9, (born in NY)
Louesia, 7, (born in NY)
Annie, 5, (born in NY)
Charlie, 4, (born in NY)

1880:
Therekie, Fredericke and Frederica seem to be the same person:
“Louis Ranke and Fredericka Ranke his wife, Emma Friederike Ranke” were admitted 5 June 1880 to the Calvary Reformed Church, Hagaman, NY.128 108
The 1880 census (enumerated 19 June 1880) lists “Therekie Rankey” as the wife of “Lewis Rankey”.180

Fredericke was “married three times, her first husband being Dr. Louis Rankey, whom she wedded in Germany and with whom she came to America in early womanhood. They lived for many years at West Galway and Hagaman, where Dr. Rankey practiced as a physician.”125

1890:
According to his obituary, Lewis Rankie is “survived by his second wife and three children.”181

Circa 1896:
Fredericka Rankie married B. Lair of Mayfield, New York. Fredericka lived in Mayfield, New York for the rest of her life.125

Between 1896 and 1899:
Upon the death of B. Lair, Fredericka married William Bates of Mayfield, New York.125

1899:
In Apr 1899, Charles E. Rankie’s obituary states “his mother, Mrs. William Bates of Mayfield” .90

1900:
The records of the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman, New York lists: “Fredericke Ranke dismissed Feb 12th 1900 to M.E. Ch Mayfield”.108

Fredereka Bates is listed in the Census as married and living in Mayfield, Fulton Cnty, New York with William A. Bates, age 70, and probable stepson Claud(?) Bates, age 23.1242

1912:
On 10 Feb 1912, Fredrick Bates applied for a Civil War widow’s pension: application #980255, certificate #780085.1245

1918:
In Feb 1918, John F. Rankie’s obituary lists “his stepmother, Mrs. Frederica Bates, of Mayfield” as attending his funeral.3

1922:
On Wednesday, 1 Mar 1822 at 1:30 in the afternoon at the home of Amos Atty in Mayfield, New York, Fredericka Bates died after “an illness of two months of general debility.”125
