Notes for Mary Catherine COUNTRYMAN
Frank Case’s recollections about his grandmother:
“Now you asked about Grandma Sprung name. It was Mary.” “I’ve always known of her as Mary and her husbands name was Emazire. I never seen him. He died with cancer either before I was born or shortly after.”411

“...she is built like [R]ose my mother. And Grandma Sprung use[d] to visit us and stay [with] us for a while. You would of liked her, she was a sweet lady. I remember her, if she was sewing or something, she would always [be] humming. I don’t know what the song [was that] she was humming. But every day she was the same....she never had a dog.”478

1875:
As of 1 Jun 1875, Mary was 13 years old and lived with her parents and four brothers outside of Gloversville, in the Town of Johnstown, Fulton Cnty, NY.465

1880:
As 14 Jun 1880, Mary was 19 years old and still lived at home with her parents and four bothers in the Town of Johnstown, Fulton Cnty, NY.467

1900:
As of 18 Jun 1900, Amaziah (age 40) and his wife, Mary (age 38), lived in the Town of Johnstown (probably North Bush), Fulton Cnty, New York. They had seven children living at home. Daughters Rosina (age 15) and Edna (age 14) were earning a living sewing gloves. Sons Anderson (age 11) and William (age 10) were attending school. Sons Burton (age 6) and Archibald (age 5) were too young to attend school and daughter Lottie (age 11 months) was an infant. Amaziah was a day laborer and rented his home.209

1915:
By 1 Jun 1915, Mary (age 53) was living with her son Anderson (age 27), his wife Leona (age 25) and their son Ronald (age 2) at 18 McNabe St., Gloversville, New York. Anderson was a leather worker and his wife, Leona, was a glove maker.471

1920:
The widow Mary Sprung (age 57) was still living with her son Anderson (age 32), his wife Leona (age 29) and their children Ronald (age 7) and Mildred (age 3 months) as of 7 Jan 1920. Anderson was a tenant farmer, farming on shares, on the Albany Bush Road, Town of Mohawk, Montgomery Cnty, New York.479
